On this page, Project FERMAN of the Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation and the association Women for Justice e.V. offers basic information on aspects related to the genocide of the ethno-religious community of the Yazidis. After centuries of persecution, the genocide began on 3 August 2014, in the Sinjar region of northern Iraq. According to their collective memory, Yazidis have been, to date, 74-times the victims of genocide, which they refer to as ‘Ferman’, named after the term of decrees in the Ottoman Empire by which they have been persecuted.
